Obituary of Deborah Denise Woods
Deborah "Dee Dee" Woods, 68, of Hooks, TX passed away March 11, 2025 in Texarkana, TX.
Deborah Denise Smith was born to parents Lafayette and Edelca Burnett Smith on May 4, 1956. As a child she accepted Christ at Redbank Baptist Church in Hooks, TX where she excelled in Bible study, Sunday School and sang in the youth choir. She attended Hooks schools from first grade until she graduated in 1975. She was active in the Pep Squad, Future Homemakers of America, Student Council and many others. She continued to excel in classes such as public speaking, music education, and swimming at Texarkana College.
Deborah was married to Calvin Woods of Hooks, TX on June 5, 1977. To this union, two children were born. Her love extended beyond her children. She was a bonus Mama and "Grammy" to many, always ready with encouragement, wisdom, and an open door. The Woods Family attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where Deborah served as the Youth Director for many years. She was active in the church choir and served her community wherever she was needed. She was blessed to be a stay at home mother for almost 20 years, then re-entered the workforce in 1995 when Mrs. Arxavia Godfrey hired her to manage a local dress shop. It was during this time she became an original member of the groundbreaking group Vizion, through which she was fortunate to make lifelong friends and began singing and traveling throughout the Ark-La-Tex.
Years later what was ordained by God happened, she was able to put her natural gifts to use when she accepted a job with KTOY 104.7 FM in 1999. Deborah then stepped into the career of a lifetime as "Dee Dee Woods." She used that platform to serve the Four States Area. She remained steadfast in serving her fellow man. Throughout her journey, countless people recall how she prayed with them and prayed for them. For 26 years Dee Dee Woods brought joy to everyday life through shows and segments like Mid-Day Inspirations, The Gospel Train, "Stupid Criminal Files," and interesting Facebook posts.
She is survived by her two children Brandon (Rebecca) Woods, Raquel Woods-Williams, their sister Syreeta Anthony (Titus) Woodson and their Father Calvin (Sandra) Woods; six grandchildren Brynn, Briley, Brandon Christopher, Caleb, Nathaniel, and Phoebe; and one great-grandson Jaxon. She is also survived by five sisters DeLois Smith, Martha Smith, Wanda Gooden, Sophia Smith, and Amanda McCoy; three brothers Odis (Janet) Holloway, Benny (Iberia) Smith, and Ronnie (Sharon) Smith; her Uncle Robert (Betty) Burnett and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Johnny Smith and Lafayette Smith Jr. and her sister Marilyn Hubbard.
As we say goodbye to "The Sweetest Voice This Side of Heaven," we take comfort in knowing that Deborah "Dee Dee" Woods has now joined the heavenly chorus, her voice harmonizing with the angels.
