Reflections of a Life Well Lived

Robert Lewis Shavers

August 22, 1931 – July 26, 2026

On Sunday, July 26, 2026, our beloved patriarch, Robert Lewis Shavers, peacefully answered the

Master’s call and entered into eternal rest at the age of 94.

Robert was born on August 22, 1931, to the late Robert and Rosie Shavers. From humble

beginnings, he built a life rooted in faith, integrity, hard work, and an unwavering love for God and

his family. His quiet strength, gentle spirit, and humble demeanor made him a source of wisdom

and encouragement to all who knew him.

Robert dedicated 28 years of faithful service to Red River Army Depot, where he worked as a taxi

driver. His commitment, dependability, and friendly nature earned the respect of his coworkers and

everyone whose lives he touched.

Above all, Robert loved the Lord. He faithfully served for many years as a deacon at Friendship

Missionary Baptist Church in Redwater, Texas. Later, he united with Grace Community Outreach in

Texarkana, where he continued serving God with the same faithfulness and devotion that

characterized his entire life.

One of Robert’s greatest joys was singing devotionals. His songs of praise reflected the deep faith

that sustained him throughout his life. Whether in church, at family gatherings, or in quiet moments,

his love for the Lord was evident in both his words and his actions.

To his children, grandchildren, and everyone who visited him, he always shared the same heartfelt

words of wisdom: “Always stay in the Lord.” Those simple words became his life’s message and

remain a treasured reminder of the faith he desired for those he loved.

Robert was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished great-grandfather and

great-great-grandfather, brother, and faithful friend. He found his greatest joy in spending time with

his family and watching generation after generation grow in love and faith. His life was a shining

example of compassion, humility, and unwavering trust in God.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene Shavers; his parents, Robert and Rosie

Shavers; one daughter, Connie; one granddaughter, Catena; one grandson, Jarell; and sons-in-law

Charles, John, and Coy.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory four sons: Johnny (Wilma), Bobby (Lizzie), Frederick

(Nelda), and Cedric; and eight daughters: Annie, Betty (Charles, deceased), Versie (Raymond),

Bessie (John, deceased), Artie (Coy, deceased), Sylvia, Sonya (Glenn), and Charlotte (Jerome).

His remarkable legacy continues through 35 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren, and 40

great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family

members, his beloved church family, and countless friends whose lives were forever enriched by

his kindness, wisdom, and steadfast faith.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Robert has received his

heavenly reward. His life was a beautiful testimony of faith, perseverance, humility, and

unconditional love. The seeds of faith he planted in his family and all who knew him will continue to

bear fruit for generations to come.

Today, we celebrate not only the years Robert lived but the extraordinary legacy he leaves

behind—a legacy of faith, family, service, and love. Though he is no longer with us in body, his

gentle spirit, loving example, and familiar words, “Always stay in the Lord,” will forever echo in our

hearts.

One of Robert’s favorite Scriptures and the prayer he so often quoted throughout his life was:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

Matthew 25:23

May we honor his memory by living the faith he so faithfully demonstrated and by remembering the

words he lovingly left with us: “Always stay in the Lord.
