Obituary for SSG Larry Davis Jr.

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; My salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”  (Psalm 62:1-2)

SSG Larry Davis Jr., known affectionately to many as “Larry” but family as “JR”, passed away at the age of forty-six on April 6th, 2024 at 9:24 PM leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and dedication. Born on May 1st, 1977, in

Inglewood, California, Larry’s journey was marked by profound experiences that shaped him into the remarkable individual he was.

Larry’s early years were spent in Los Angeles, California and he graduated from Atlanta High School in 1996. During his time there, he excelled not only academically but also athletically, participating in football, basketball, and track. His

passion and talent in track earned him numerous medals, reflecting his dedication and drive even from a young age.

In 1997, Larry made the decision to serve his country by joining the United States Army. His commitment to his faith led him to dedicate his life to Christ in 2003, followed by his baptism and membership at St. Mary Missionary Baptist

Church. Throughout his military career, Larry served with honor and distinction, including deployments to Germany and active participation in both Iraq wars.

After serving thirteen years and reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant (E7), Larry’s military career came to an end due to a knee injury. Returning home to Atlanta, Texas in 2011, he embraced a new chapter in his life. In 2011, Larry found

love and companionship with Chaundra, whom he married on June 3rd, 2017. He embraced Chaundra’s sons as his own and welcomed daughter Keira and son Nasir into the world with open arms

Determined to continue his pursuit of excellence, Larry earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and embarked on a successful career at International Paper Mill and later with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). His relentless drive

and commitment to self-improvement led him from office work to heavy mobile operations and eventually to the esteemed position of Branch Chief.

Larry was not only a dedicated professional but also a devoted family man. He took immense pride in providing for his loved ones, ensuring that they never went without. His love for his wife, children, mother, sisters and extended family

knew no bounds; and his integrity and compassion touched the lives of all who knew him.

In addition to his professional and familial pursuits, Larry found joy in cooking gourmet dishes, sharing his culinary creations on social media, and spreading laughter through his humor on Facebook. His BBQ skills were legendary, and he

cherished every moment spent with his family, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Larry Davis Sr. Those left to cherish his sweet memories include his wife of seven years, Chaundra Davis of Atlanta, Texas; daughters, Amaya Davis White of Memphis, Tennessee and Keira Davis

of Atlanta, Texas; sons, Nasir Davis, Jayden Platt, and Jordan Platt all of Atlanta, Texas; his mother, Brenda Davis of Atlanta, Texas; and sisters, Latasha (Rickey) Hatley of Douglasville, Texas and Nakisha (Ramirez) Jackson of Los

Angeles, California.

Larry Davis Jr. leaves behind a legacy of honor, love, and resilience that will endure for generations to come. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
