Obituary of Betty McGinnis Thurston

Betty McGinnis, 68, of Texarkana, Texas, departed this life, Friday, August 29, 2014, in a local hospital. Mrs. Thurston was born May 25, 1946, in Magnolia, Ark. She was owner of Wee People Day School and a member of Hamilton Memorial AME Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Thurston. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Elmarquis McGinnis of Dallas and Joseph and Kira McGinnis; her parents, Irene Williams of Texarkana and Russell McGinnis; one brother, Leo Criner of Texarkana; four sisters, Tommie Lee Jackson, Amanda Kelley, the Rev. Mary Frances Wadley and Wynette Jackson of Texarkana; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lonoke Baptist Church with the Revs. John H. Holmes Jr. and James Morris officiating. Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens under direction of Richardson Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
