I was Michael's teacher many years ago in Ashdown. He was in the second grade and I had to give his grandmother, Miss Mariah a daily report on his behavior. Many days it was a LONG report! I will remember his smile and his "AWWWW Miz Slaten don't tell her I was baddddddd." I saw him in high school and he had grown to be such a big, good looking young man, but he continued to use that infectious smile to charm me. I am very sorry for your loss. I live in Montana now but will be thinking of Michael today. Yours truly, Donnie Slaten

Michael, you were truly a special cousin to me, more like a little brother. I remember it was my responsibility to get you on the school bus every morning and some mornings that was more of a challenge than others. I remember you finding out where I had move to when I was trying to keep it a secret. But the one thing I will remember is you removing the training wheels from Jeremy's bike when I didn't think he was ready. You assured me that he was ready, and said you would take full responsibility if something happened to him. When I came to pick him up he was scarred up from one end to the other and you where nowhere to be found. As a matter of fact, I didn't see you for some months. But after I got my son and his bike home, I looked out the window and he was riding the bike in the yard with no problem and no training wheels. You may have almost let him break his neck but you taught him how to ride a bike. So to my Uncle Buck, my Aunt Theresa (you will always be my aunt) to my cousins and to all of my family. We can get through this as we have many times before, and we can rest assured that we can fill this broken link in your family chain. I will miss Michael, and hope to see him and all of our family members who have gone on before us one day on the side. May God Bless Us All Cheryl
