Mr. Melvin Gates was born to Caleb and Julie King Gates on Saturday, March 22, 1924 in Beckville, Texas. He united in marriage to Laretta Dixon Gates. He enjoyed taking care of his family, hunting, taking daily walks, picking up cans and watching sports on television.

Mr. Gates departed his earthly life on Thursday, September 24, 2020. His wife, Laretta Dixon Gates; four sons, Jesse Gates, James Gates, Charles Gates and Willie Pete Williams; one daughter, Brelone Washington; parents, Caelb and Julie Gates; four brothers; six sisters; one granddaughter, Tammy Bruce; and one grandson, Johnny Davis, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory:
